Learn, Share, Grow – “Inside Shark Tank”

The Blue Courage team is dedicated to continual learning and growth.  We have adopted a concept from Simon Sinek’s Start With Why team called “Learn, Share, Grow”.  We are constantly finding great articles, videos, and readings that have so much learning.  As we learn new and great things, this new knowledge should be shared for everyone to then grow from.

Blue Courage’s Key Learnings:

ABC’s Shark tank has become the most successful business reality show. Shark Tank’s Kevin Harrington has been successful at turning an idea into a huge success several times over. As he’s stated, “If it doesn’t challenge you – it won’t change you.” Entrepreneurship requires swimming against the norm; upstream; against the rapids; confidently swim towards white water. In doing so, there needs to be great anticipation for the unknown – the challenge. Here are his 5 lessons that we should begin practicing immediately.

Lesson 1 – Seek out the Challenge
SHARKS set out to map their own course – they don’t let anyone tell them it can’t be done or that there’s an easier way. They don’t need approval from his/her peers – no validation. They don’t forget their gifts and talents; they don’t try to be something they are not.

Lesson 2 – Seek out Opportunity
SHARKS seek out an opportunity from the front-end and back-end; seeing things completely through from start to finish, and capitalize on that opportunity – without being afraid of the challenges that it represents.

Lesson 3 – Be Relentless
SHARKS never stop swimming towards their goal – or they will suffocate and die. They have a strong will to win – a will to be driven and thrive, regardless of the battle scars they might collect along the way. The scars only represent experience.

Lesson 4 – Never Stop Learning
SHARKS are excellent problem solvers because they never stop learning, pivot when necessary, and therefore are on the front-end of the disruption. They are early adapters to new technology in order to continue their position of market leadership and being on top. They help set the new trends, are excellent teachers. Their relentless nature demands that they continually learn and grow in order to perfect his/her craft.

Lesson 5 – Be Decisive
SHARKS are decisive about an opportunity – when they see one, they move. There’s no room for living in fear or not knowing if and what to do. You are either IN or OUT.

Final thoughts: Success has to start somewhere, and that somewhere is at the bottom – and hard work to conquer many intimidating moments along the way leads to success. There’s no such thing as an overnight success – it takes grit, persistence, and tenacity to turn dreams into reality.
