Learn, Share, Grow - The Guest House
Below is a poem from Rumi on meeting the emotions that pass through you with courage and respect, as well as our key learnings.
The Blue Courage team is dedicated to continual learning and growth. We have adopted a concept from Simon Sinek’s Start With Why team called “Learn, Share, Grow”. We are constantly finding great articles, videos, and readings that have so much learning. As we learn new and great things, this new knowledge should be shared for everyone to then grow from.
The Guest House
by Jalaluddin Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Key Learnings:
- Human experiences, likened to a guest house, and emotions, both positive and negative, are temporary visitors.
- Embrace and accept all emotions, including sorrow and pain, with gratitude and openness.
- Each emotion, whether joyful or difficult, has their place and purpose.
- By treating each emotion with respect and gratitude, emotions can be seen as a guide or teacher that contributes to personal growth and transformation.
- There is value in a deeper understanding and acceptance of the full spectrum of human emotions, and the spiritual and transformative potential inherent in each moment.
